28 Months and 5 Months

I thought time went by fast with one kid, but it seems to go at warp speed with two. Believe it or not, I actually have an alarm go off on my calendar every two weeks to update this blog. Womp womp. I fail. I have been so busy, plus Burke is finally going to bed at a normal time... no more wonky infant bedtimes. So here's what's new!

BURKE - 5 Months

Oh my little man. He is so smiley and giggly, I just want to eat him up! We moved him into his crib (much later than Molly was moved) and he's been adjusting fairly well, other than when he has a cold. He's not sleeping through the night consistently... in fact, it's happened once... but he typically goes down around 7pm, wakes around 3 or 4am and then gets up for the day at 6am. I don't mind getting up, but lately he's had a very stuffy nose and is waking SO much. This mama is tired!

He discovered his toes recently and is always grabbing at them. He is also SO talkative and loves blowing raspberries. He's definitely my little buddy... I have a conference coming up for an entire weekend and am dreading being away from him for an entire two days.

Oh, how could I forget, we just started him on solids - banana! He loves it! Little chunker. He's much bigger than Molly was at this age!

MOLLY - 28 Months

Oh little Miss Molly, the sunshine of my life! Every day she makes us smile and laugh with her silly ways and the things she says. Her vocabulary is amazing to watch unfold. I swear she learns something new every time I say something. Haha, my little parrot. She is very much into the Disney Channel and all things Mickey Mouse, Princess and TinkerBell.

Funny story that I want to write down to remember forever. A few months ago she was saying "Tinnie tan-o" all the time. Ben and I could not figure out what she was saying. But she would say "Tinnie tan-o" all the time. Then, one day, she pointed at the Disney Channel logo on a book and we were like "OHHHH! Disney Channel!" I died. Of course, now she can pronounce it, but I love figuring out her little language.

She is very independent, especially when it comes to what food she wants. Luckily, she's getting very adventurous with trying new foods.

I'm sure you're wondering how things are with her and Burke. Well, she adores him and he is the first thing she asks for in the morning. "Where Burkie? Burkie sleepin'?" Then when she sees him her face lights up and she does everything she can to make him giggle. And boy does he ever! He thinks she's the funniest! I just love watching them interact. I can't wait until they can play together.

Speaking of playing... I try to keep Molly's days filled with fun things to do and play dates are always the most fun for both of us. She just has a blast with other kids. And she loves to talk about all her friends!

Well, I hear Burke crying so I better go check on him! Sorry for the lack of photos, but I'm on a borrowed laptop and have none. However you can go here and get your fix! http://instagram.com/nikkihilljohnson (I also added a widget on the right)

We Have Two Kids!!

So, yeah, it's been a hot minute since I updated. Since I did we had baby numero dos: Robert Burke Johnson -- he goes by Burke. And Molly turned TWO!! Wowzers!

I tend to post more about the kids on my mommy blog, so if you haven't subscribed over there yet, I highly recommend it: http://supernovamom.com

BURKE
My labor and delivery was fairly easy. I had been having contractions for days and was skipping my Lovenox dosage (which I was told to do if I thought I was going into labor). Finally, I decided to call my OB b/c skipping that medicine is very dangerous. She told me to come into L&D so they could see if I had progressed from being 4cm dilated at my last OB appointment. Well, I was still 4cm. UGH. They wanted to monitor me, but if I didn't dilate to 5cm they were going to send me home. Ben decided to start pressing on the pressure points of my feet, which can put you into labor. Well, no less than 5 mins after he started, my contractions began getting intense and when they checked 30 mins late I was 5cm. YAY!

Once I was all checked in and hooked up to monitors and IVs they broke my water. THEN I decided to get my epidural. It took the dr. 3 effing tries. Meanwhile, I'm having intense contractions. It was not fun, but the pain of getting my epidural was nothing compared to those contractions. Oof.

Then it was a waiting game. About 4 hours later it was time to push. And push I did (all while my epidural hadn't fully kicked in, OUCH)... for two contractions and out he came. 8lbs 9oz and 20.5 inches. Big boy!

So far he's been an amazing baby. So laid back and sleepy. We are all extremely happy!

MOLLY
Oh man, is Molly something else. She's just the most fun little person ever! I love spending every day with her and her silly self. She's talking up a storm, singing songs and just brightening up everyone around her.

Halloween was a big hit. She loved talking about pumpkins and ghosts and bats. She is still saying "Happy Halloween" all around the house and still wants to wear her Minnie Mouse costume.

She is VERY into Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and plays with her Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy stuffed animals every day. She's also really into Little People. She plays with them and gives them names like mommy, daddy, Burkie.

Her best friend is Kathryn. They went trick-or-treating together and always have such a good time playing. It also helps that Kathryn's mom is one of my oldest and best friends. :)

I would list all the things Molly is saying, but honestly, it's something new every day. She is a little parrot and it's almost scary because we really have to watch our mouths. "OH GOD" is a new one she picked up, oops. "That's nice" is another funny one. She says "Look mom" a lot and just started really saying "I LOVE YOU!" which is my personal favorite.

Ben's mom stayed with us for a month while we were awaiting Burke's arrival/welcoming him into the world. It was amazing! But since Hezzie left, Molly likes to ask everyday where she is. She also sometimes asks about Boppa, Nannie and Koko. The other day she even asked about Gracie (our old dog) so I have no idea what that little brain is thinking.

She loves reading books, playing with playdoh, coloring, the playground, bubbles, singing, puzzles... you know, the typical 2 year old stuff. She sleeps in a big girl bed and looooves her little brother. Every morning she wants to "snuggle Burke." And I always let her because it gives me a little extra time in bed!

20 Months and 27 Weeks

Howdy folks! We are in the midst of a move so I can't even believe I'm blogging right now, but anything to avoid packing, right?! With the little man (yes, it's a boy!) arriving in just 3 short months or less plus Molly growing like a weed, it is time to upgrade our space. We are moving to a 3 bedroom townhouse in Ashburn. After living in a 1000 sq ft condo, it's going to feel like a mansion!

We are very excited to move to Ashburn, where a lot of my friends live. Molly will be very close to her little friend Kathryn so we plan on having a lot of play dates. We also have a park and a pool within walking distance!! YAY! Molly certainly looooves both! The only negative is that Ben will have to deal with a longer commute. He has been spoiled living less than 2 miles from work!

My pregnancy is going well and we're at 27 weeks. I'm not as uncomfortable as I was with Molly... maybe because I don't have time to sit and think about it. Molly and I are always on the go! I did have a mini scare a couple weeks ago with my OB thinking that I was exhibiting signs of preterm labor. I've been having Braxton Hicks contractions that aren't very comfortable... however, after getting checked out, all was fine. I was told to take it easy (yeah right!) and drink lots of water.

This little guy is much more active than I remember Molly being. He's ALWAYS moving and kicking me very hard! Molly likes to lift up my shirt and pretend to feed him through my belly button. Every night before bed we rock in the chair and she says "baby" and puts her hand on my belly. It's so cute! She also likes to point to her belly and say "baby." We have been reading her some books about being a big sister so I think she's excited about having a baby brother. We'll see if she feels the same way come October!

Molly is 20 months now and it is SO crazy how much she is talking. She pretty much repeats the last word of everything I say (scary!). Her vocabulary is extensive and I can't even keep track of all her new words. A favorite is airplane (Ah nane!) which she shouts every time she sees one. And living so close to the airport, we see them a lot.

Well, I have to run. I'll update soon, promise!

Johnson Family Update

Four months have passed since I last posted... whoa! I read the last post I left you with and I had to laugh because SO much has changed since then. SO SO much. Please forgive me if this post is long and rambling, but I have to catch you up! So here we gooooo.....

WE ARE HAVING ANOTHER BABY! Okay, so I'm sure you all already knew that, especially if you are on Facebook. We are due October 13 and we find out if it's a boy or girl on June 1. I cannot wait! My first trimester was pretty rough, just like with Molly, but I'm 18 weeks and feeling much much better!

Molly has turned into such a little kid over the past few weeks. She's very independent and I feel like she has new words everyday. Things she likes:

  • counting
  • dancing/twirling
  • throwing everything especially balls
  • her slide
  • Sesame Street - Abby and Elmo in particular
  • the iPad
  • swings
  • water - loves splashing in puddles, taking baths and wading in fountains (can't wait for the pool to open!)
  • Earth's Best Organic Snack Bars -- seriously, this is all she pretty much will eat right now
  • coloring
  • animals
  • reading books
  • running as fast as she can in the direction I don't want her to go
  • being silly
  • playing peek-a-boo
  • balloons
She is starting to show some interest in the potty, so once Gracie goes back to her original owners (yes, i will fill you in) I'm going to start letting her run around diaper-less with the potty in close proximity. Better now then when I have a newborn to tend to! And if she doesn't want to go on the potty we will revisit later... I'm not going to push it.

Now that I feel better and the weather is nice, I try to take Molly to the park as much as I can. She is a master at climbing up the stairs and going down the slide. She would spend all day there if I let her. We often meet up with her friend, Kathryn, who is 4 months older than Molly... that's also fun for me because Kathryn's mommy is my friend since 3rd grade! ;) I like those play dates! We are looking into putting Molly into Soccer Bugs this summer -- just a fun weekly play session with other little kids that involves some soccer balls. I think she's going to like it!

Okay, last time I blogged, we had just gotten Gracie. Well, she has proven to be too much for us to handle. She just wants to play with Molly, but doesn't realize her size and often times ends up knocking Molly over or making her upset. Our condo is also too small for her, which isn't fair to her. Being home with both her and Molly has proved to be a challenge and adding a new baby to the mix is just going to complicate matters. I have kept in touch with her previous owners and told them the situation. They actually were happy because they had some regrets with giving her up and are so excited to have her back next week! Win win for everyone! We will miss her, but I'm sure she'll be glad to be back in some wide open spaces!

Ben is still working hard at Pure Matters. They celebrate the year anniversary of the company launch this summer and Ben will celebrate his year anniversary of working for them around the same time. Big milestones! I am officially a contractor for Pure Matters! I work about 20 hours a week from home maintaining their social media (facebook, twitter, pinterest) pages. My title is Community Manager. Yes, this is on top of my freelance writing, my dessert business and my blog -- which has since moved to http://supernovamom.com. Speaking of desserts, I just did my first wedding cake! It was so much fun and surprisingly stress free!

I am having fun juggling it all and I tend to thrive when I'm busy. I love being able to contribute to the family income but still spend every day with Molly. She brings so much joy to our lives and makes us laugh constantly. I try to savor every second because she is growing up so fast. Talking up a storm, learning new words all the time and constantly surprising me with how smart she is. She must get those brains from her daddy. ;)

I will try to update this blog more frequently, but I can't make any promises given my busy schedule. If you want to know what we are up to on a more frequent basis you can check out SuperNoVa Mom or just check out my facebook page!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone enjoyed the end of 2011 and are currently having a great start to the year. Well, where did I leave off? September? EEK! Sorry about that. Around that time I ramped up my NoVa Mom Blog and since I update that daily, you may want to start following that blog as well! There are plenty of Molly pics for those of you not on Facebook.

Since my last post we celebrated Molly's 1st birthday. I can't believe it's been over a year since she was born! Time goes by so fast. We had an owl themed party, of course! I blogged about her party so you can see a bunch of photos here. It was a small gathering, but with lots of presents for Miss Molly!

Not only is she walking now, Molly is quite the chatterbox. I've been trying to keep track of all her words so here they are:
  • Mama
  • Dada
  • Doggie - "doddie"
  • Hi
  • Bye Bye - "buh bye" - waves
  • Night Night - "nih nih" - puts her hand to her ear like she's sleeping and blows kisses
  • All Done - "ah duh" - she also signs this
  • Thank You - "da doo"
  • Cheese - "chess"
  • Cracker - "ka ker"
  • Purple - "pa pul"
  • Bellybutton - "be boo"
  • Diaper - "di der"
  • Bottle - "bobble" - she signs milk when she wants her bottle
  • Up - "uh"
  • Please - "peas"
  • Banana - "nana"
  • Ball
  • Uh Oh
  • Eyes - "ice"
  • Nose - "nus"
  • NO!

I think those are most of them! She is great at imitating, so she picks up words pretty quickly and does a great job of remembering them. She's at such a fun age and is always giggling.

As I type this, our newest family member, Gracie is sleeping next to me. Yep, we got a dog! She's 8 months old and you can read all about how she came to be ours here. It's definitely been a challenging week, but I'm learning how to juggle a toddler and a dog and to manage my time even better! I'm also trying to figure out how to keep Molly out of the water bowl and to stop throwing her food on the floor and laughing hysterically when Gracie eats it!

As for us grownups, Ben is still enjoying his job at Pure Matters and is headed to New Hampshire later this month for some Google Immersion training. Very cool! I think I can officially call myself a freelance writer! I still blog for Pure Matters and I was just hired by NickMom to contribute there as well... I'm VERY excited! If I'm not writing at either of those sites or my blog, you can probably find me in the kitchen baking away.

Here are some recent photos!

Almost One!

Wow! Have we been slackers or what? In all fairness we had a wedding to plan and a baby to raise, so blogging took a back seat. Now that the wedding has come and gone (yay for being married!) we can stay on top of the blog and keep y'all up to date on our family.

Molly is just a week shy of 11 months! I can't even believe it. Just looking back through our old posts and seeing all the pregnancy pictures is crazy. Time really does fly. So where is Molly now? I'll try to keep this short!

She has 2 teeth and every day I think she's going to get another one... she's teething like crazy. She says "mama" and "dada" and I'm pretty sure she's trying to say "doggy." She LOVES dogs! She points at everything and waves to everyone. She likes dancing, talking (or screaming), laughing, fake coughing, blowing kisses, reading books, snuggling and smiling. Molly is oh-so close to walking... she can stand on her own for a fairly long time, but she hasn't quite taken those steps on her own. However, when she holds our hands she zooms around!

She is signing milk and all done. Her favorite food is banana. She also enjoys cheese, peas, carrots, corn, crackers and yogurt melts. Her favorite toys change on a daily basis but she gravitates towards soft stuffed animals, especially her stuffed bunny, 'Lil Peanut, that she sleeps with every night.

Molly is such a joy and I love spending every waking minute with her. She makes us laugh so hard with her silly antics.

Now for an update on us grownups (if you care!): Ben accepted a job at an internet startup, Pure Matters, this summer. He does a little bit of everything there... product management, content management, merchandising consulting, development... should I go on? He really enjoys it and the people he works with are great!

I started my own business this summer, Noms by Nikki, and am constantly busy in the kitchen baking up lots of goodies. I absolutely love it! I also freelance write about all things health-related for Pure Matters along with maintaining my own blog, NoVa Mom Blog. Now that I'm done planning our wedding I am keeping busy with Molly's birthday party plans and prettying up our condo! I love staying home with Molly and being my own boss. :)

I'm looking forward to keeping y'all up to date on our crazy lives! Now where did we leave off?

Time Flies When You Have a Baby

Where does time go?! Molly is 7.5 months now and we have so much to update you on! She's on the verge of fully crawling and is getting increasingly frustrated just going in circles and scooting on her belly. She's very vocal (DADADADADA or NANANANANNA are her favorites), letting us know when she wants something. On one hand we really want her to start crawling so she can get to the things she wants, but on the other hand it's nice to be able to put her down on her blanket and still step away to use the bathroom or make a sandwich. Those days will soon be behind us! Time to get to baby proofing!

We've been signing with Molly since she was about 4 months old and she's now signing "milk" when she's hungry, however, she's always hungry! But it is nice to know what she wants when she's fussing. This is the sign for milk: http://www.babysignlanguage.com/dictionary/m/milk/

Remember that tooth? Well, it's FINALLY making some headway. Molly is about to get her first two bottom teeth! We can't wait to see her gummy smile have a couple little teefers in there!

We are so busy Molly raising, wedding planning, job hunting and cake baking (I started my dessert business! yay!) that the blog often falls to the wayside, but here's a picture for your patience!
